Peer Adviser, Lara Aguirre Medina

About Me:

Ever since I can remember, my life has been immersed in art. Whether it was going to an art gallery, watching a performance, playing music, or gluing mosaics together, I knew that I wanted to pursue the arts to continue creating for as long as possible. While I was cultured in many forms of artistic media, I found my passion in the cinematic arts. To me, film, and the arts in general, is a crucial aspect in bringing communities together. When I was placed in Oakes, I felt a sense of pride and comfort. I knew that I would have the support from the Oakes community to fully delve and construct my vision. Two core Oakes values I resonate with are diversity and understanding perspective. These perspectives are how we allow ourselves to form our own opinions and learn from the world. I want my vision as an artist and filmmaker to be shared with others, to inspire them to explore their interests, and always feel that enthusiasm for whatever it is that drives them. I want people to have conversations, have questions, and educate each other with the knowledge they have. My goal is to excite and encourage people to gain new perspectives from people outside of their shared ideas or community; to welcome the unfamiliar territory with open arms.
